OTGs - Overdubs To Go |
Townes Van Zandt and The East Side Flash |
Austin Texas, the live music capital of the world, is home to some of the best music and finest bands around. As the owner of Flashpoint Recording Studio, I stay in touch with the bands and the musicians around the central Texas area. Let's face it, if you want a Redd Volkeart guitar solo on your tune, you either gotta come to Austin Texas where Redd lives, or fly Redd to you. At Flashpoint we feel great players, such as Redd and about 500 others, should work as much as possible. From this philosophy I created OTG (overdubs to go). In many cases someone wants that certain musician or special sound on their recording and discovers it'll either cost a small fortune to make it happen or no one around them plays that kind of instrument or style. |
Suppose you are at a club or concert where you live, or you visited Austin and heard a musician or band that knocked you out --- "That saw player was astounding".....(yes Austin has some pretty hot saw players). Anyway, whoever it was that floated your boat at the time, slide guitarist, sax player, percussionist, backup singer (etc.) can do an overdub and be on your record. The financial cost to make that happen is not that much. |
Basically, you contact us (geek mail or phone) with your thoughts ideas, and project requirements. We'll contact the player(s) of your choice, arrange the session, and see if they are into doing the overdub. A basic OTG can cost around $200 per song for a single pass which includes studio time and paying the player. Once we have an ok from all parties involved, you send us a reference mix of your music and Flashpoint will get the player booked and make the session happen. You can interact with the player over the phone during the session to make sure your artistic ideas are realzied. We can post a mix of the overdub in the Clients Log In section of this site for you to listen to. Once everything is approved, we send you a data CD-R containing a WAV file of your old reference mix (that's the one you sent us without the overdub) and a WAV file of the overdub. Both the ref mix and the OD are contiguous files that start at the same place so it's a simple matter to import the WAV files back into your project lined up and ready to go. You use the ref mix to get the OD lined up with your other tracks. This and any other technical details can be further explained once you call us. If you have additional thoughts, questions or ideas concerning OTGs please give us a holler. We'll move mountains, or at least very heavy mic stands, in order to get the musician of your choice on your project. |
